Who Is Kerry Freeman and what is an EA? I am a Anthem resident
who moved here June of 2005. My wife and I came from Dixon,
California. In Dixon, I ran the 46 year old family tax practice. I am a
second generation tax professional.
"EA" stands for Enrolled Agent. Enrolled Agents are required to
demonstrate competence in matters of taxation; their right to
represent taxpayers comes directly from the U.S. government
Department of the Treasury(IRS). Unlike many tax preparers for
whom tax preparation is a seasonal job from January through April 15,
EAs(Like myself) provide tax services year-round in the field of tax
planning, preparation, and representation.
The Enrolled Agent (EA) designation originated in 1884 to regulate
agents who represented U.S. citizens with claims for Civil War losses.
Today, EAs represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service
and help prepare returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations,
estates, trusts, and other tax entities. EAs are also experts in tax
planning, and can help you ensure that you don’t pay too much or risk
an audit. This make me uniquely qualified to give you advice with no
hidden agenda in selling you some products like loans, insurance, and
investments. Since all of the items mention have some tax issues, I can
be an important resource to consult on any of these issues.
When I say that" I only do Taxes "that does not limit me form doing
such things as Bookkeeping, Payroll. I believe that this goes hand in
hand with a full service Tax Professional. If necessary, I can direct
clients to other professionals like CPA's , Attorneys or others to work
as a team to better assist you on your very special needs.
Currently I am the past President of the Central Arizona Chapter of
Enrolled Agent (WWW.CACEA.Com) and a representative to the
Arizona Society of Enrolled Agents(AZsEA). I have completed my
Fellowship program on representation at the NTPI seminar sponsored
by the National Association of Enrolled Agents.

Fee General Guidelines
I consider it a point of personal honor to charge fair and reasonable
fees in exchange for excellent professional services.
Generally, my fees are based on a combination of the following:
- Time spent and forms used
- Complexity of the engagement
- Level of expertise required
- Prior year's fee or estimate given
- Comparable fees charged by other Tax Professionals
Income Tax Return Preparation
My minimum fee for income tax return preparation is $125.00 I provide
the following for every income tax return prepared:
Federal and state income tax returns with electronic filing.
An instruction letter, including recommended estimated tax
payments, if necessary.
One half hour office meeting (if requested).
Photocopies of the federal and state tax returns.
Individualized tax organizer mailed each year in early January.
Year-round availability for questions or professional
assistance.
The minimum fee includes basic federal and state tax returns. Unless
prior arrangements have been made, we ask for payment when the
tax return is picked up in our office. We accept cash, personal
checks, Master card and Visa.
More complex income tax returns incur additional charges, usually in
increments of $10.00 to $50.00 For example, a basic tax return with
Schedule A (itemized deductions) and a simple Schedule C (sole
proprietorship) would be $275.00. Add Form 2106 (employee
business expense), and the fee increases to $300.00. Capital gains
transactions, rental real estate, and passive loss calculations also add
complexity and additional fees. Multiple real estate sales and
purchases, lengthy depreciation schedules, and messy, disorganized
financial information result in higher fees simply because I must spend
more time; and time is money. If you organize and summarize your
financial information before you bring it in to me, my fees will be lower
than they otherwise would have been.
A part-year state return adds complexity because income and
expenses have to be allocated between resident states, even if you
have moved from a state that does not require income tax returns. My
minimum fee for a federal and part-year California income tax return is
$160.00.
Other miscellaneous fees you should know about:
Automatic extension time to file, no balance owing: $30.00
Automatic extension of time to file, with calculation of
balance owing: $75.00.
Withholding recommendations (requires worksheets with
estimates of income and deductions; I don't trust the W-4
worksheet): No Charge. (usually one hour needed).
Extra copies of tax returns: No Charge
FedEx overnight: actual cost + $10
Office meetings in excess of 1/2 hour during tax season: if you
have a "flat fee" arrangement wherein a 1/2 hour meeting is
included in the fee, we charge $60.00/hr. for extra time spent (in
15 minute increments).
Reprocessing the tax return because the client wants to make
changes: time spent at $50/hr.
